Flea drops are a common and effective way to protect your dog from fleas, ticks, and sometimes other parasites. These drops are usually applied topically to the skin between your dog’s shoulder blades, where they can’t lick it off. Here’s an overview to help you understand and use them safely:

How Flea Drops Work

  • They contain active insecticides (like fipronil, imidacloprid, or selamectin) that spread through the natural oils of your dog’s skin.
  • Kill adult fleas, and sometimes eggs and larvae.
  • Some also protect against ticks, mites, or lice.

How to Apply Flea Drops

  1. Read the label—only use products intended for dogs & your dog’s weight.
  2. Part the fur between the shoulder blades.
  3. Squeeze the entire contents of the tube onto the skin.
  4. Avoid bathing your dog for 24–48 hours after application.
  5. Wash your hands after application.
